{"id":4201,"date":"2013-09-08T02:00:40","date_gmt":"2013-09-08T02:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sporkpress.com\/?p=4201"},"modified":"2013-09-08T02:00:40","modified_gmt":"2013-09-08T02:00:40","slug":"from-on-the-architecture-leora-fridman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thisissporkpress.com\/archive\/2013\/09\/08\/from-on-the-architecture-leora-fridman\/","title":{"rendered":"From On The Architecture || Leora Fridman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ON THE ARCHITECTURE<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nworkmen come to find me<br \/>\nback behind the old retreat<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nwhere we spoof the clinging children<br \/>\nand toughen up their feet<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nto finesse their eco-records<br \/>\nmake uniform their hands<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nto show them any body<br \/>\nsways as it descends<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nI direct kids pointing<br \/>\nto bring stress to their skin<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nthere has been so much impact<br \/>\nof wires inside this grass<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nthat more delicate nerve-ends<br \/>\nfasten belts and sin<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nin a land still so well built<br \/>\nmocking birds call from the fence<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nand we visit the drilling station<br \/>\nwhere feelings waddle on pelts<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n______________________<br \/>\n<strong>ON THE ARCHITECTURE<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nfortunately no one is<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nalso happy for me, this<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\npretty lady on a cruise,<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nI have come to believe<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nthis land grows bulk<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nI sailed out because I heard<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nwe were thinning<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nas more sofas amass<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nmore people withstand<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nI arrive as a savior of martyrs<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nas I age out<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nof deserving rest<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nI invite into the room my smallness<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nyou may also return to me<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nunsympathetic to standing<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nyou can know me as sat<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nyou can know me as I had luck here<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nas I wasn\u2019t so seemly<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nor the ways I axed<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\napropos<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n____________________<br \/>\n<strong>ON THE ARCHITECTURE<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nmore people<br \/>\nare denying<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nwhat they know<br \/>\nabout the tides<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nwhat buds<br \/>\nhave a blind spot<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nwhat network<br \/>\nalerts the eyes<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nwired for framing<br \/>\nwhat cruelty we caught<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nis there a real remedy<br \/>\nor any people allied<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nnot knowing so keeping<br \/>\ninspections on file<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nrifling through collapses<br \/>\nto make it worth your while<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n___________________<br \/>\n<strong>ON THE ARCHITECTURE<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nwhat goes tacky in the body<br \/>\nwhen drilling has a hand<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nin making everyone listen<br \/>\nto growth and being grand<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nwhen drilling has to call us<br \/>\nback from the sad motel<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nto stick us to our stories<br \/>\nif that makes an amend<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\ntell us we are unwelcome<br \/>\nto believe we comprehend<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\ndemands we end the wilting<br \/>\ndemands we hold up our end<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\ndown again with the supple<br \/>\nif laughter has a gland<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nwhat goes quite that tacky<br \/>\nwhen we sag back to land<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n____________________\u2003<br \/>\n<strong>ON THE ARCHITECTURE<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nI can feel us folding<br \/>\ntrading matters-of-fact<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nI have come to waddle<br \/>\ninto an unsure act<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nwhat else was riding with us<br \/>\nwhen we went market-based<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nwho was bringing the worthwhile<br \/>\nwhen we delivered rest<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\neveryone was waiting<br \/>\nto have a guarantee<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nwas anticipating adapting<br \/>\nto wires over the sea<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n___________________________________________________________<br \/>\n<strong>Leora Fridman<\/strong> is a writer, translator and educator living in Massachusetts.
