{"id":4396,"date":"2013-11-17T01:50:12","date_gmt":"2013-11-17T01:50:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sporkpress.com\/?p=4396"},"modified":"2013-11-17T01:50:12","modified_gmt":"2013-11-17T01:50:12","slug":"3-poems-lina-ramona-vitkauskas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thisissporkpress.com\/archive\/2013\/11\/17\/3-poems-lina-ramona-vitkauskas\/","title":{"rendered":"3 Poems || Lina Ramona Vitkauskas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Dream 3: Caroline Danske Dandridge (1858\u20131914)<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n\u201cWhen we strive so hard so conquer<br \/>\nVexing sublunary things;<br \/>\nWhen we wait and toil and suffer,<br \/>\nWe are working for our wings.\u201d<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nI carry these Saturdays<br \/>\nupon my chest, a<br \/>\njunk mail cloak.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nA fleet of excelsior automobiles<br \/>\ngo by\u2014gods &#038; turkeys,<br \/>\nbutter &#038; biscuits,<br \/>\nsymptoms &#038; tinted glass.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nHi there!<br \/>\nMe suffocation,<br \/>\nme carpentry,<br \/>\nme unreasonable &#038;<br \/>\nspotting flock &#038; fleece,<br \/>\nmeadow &#038; fences.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nGod, the folklore sucks here.<br \/>\nAnd here, in the thicket,<br \/>\nno poultice for my wound,<br \/>\nnor little Zuzu bells,<br \/>\nonly chambers,<br \/>\nkilometers of hearts<br \/>\nlaid to dry in the sun&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;along the road.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n____________________<br \/>\n<strong>Dream 5: The Thin Columbus of Phenomena<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n\u201cJean Cocteau,\u201d I scream into the phone,<br \/>\n\u201cYou are a horrible husband.\u201d<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nI wander into your home, on film,<br \/>\n(again in a movie house)<br \/>\n&#038; each wall is an unheard forest of<br \/>\nfertile mirrors, there are wardrobes<br \/>\nof midnight, &#038; prairie mice upon<br \/>\nthe electric grass floors cross themselves<br \/>\nbefore the crush of a cycle boy\u2019s boot.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nThe ones who strangle all the<br \/>\nlittle ones, the ones who walk<br \/>\nupside down under ice floes,<br \/>\ncome to Jean\u2019s house in Detroit,<br \/>\ndistilled yet untamed; minnows &#038; mystery bachelorettes washing ashore.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n____________________<br \/>\n<strong>Dream 6: Birth, School, Work\u2026<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<em>Part One<\/em><br \/>\nAn Australian priest resembling<br \/>\nFather Guido Sarducci tells me<br \/>\nI will soon bear a child<br \/>\nnamed Elemotsian.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nI push this Elemotsian<br \/>\nout of me<br \/>\non a stretcher<br \/>\nin the hospital hallway.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nHe comes out of me,<br \/>\nstill,<br \/>\nembryo-form,<br \/>\na cooked, mini-roasted chicken.<br \/>\nYes, headless\u2014<br \/>\n&#038; possessing drumsticks<br \/>\n&#038; puckered skin where remnants<br \/>\nof freshly plucked feathers<br \/>\ncan still be seen on the surface.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nMy father now at my bedside.<br \/>\nMy mother says from somewhere<br \/>\nin the room that I should name him<br \/>\n\u201cRinglets\u201d<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<em>Part Two<\/em><br \/>\nNow at my office\u2014I\u2019m a busy bee.<br \/>\nI have places to go.<br \/>\nThe nation is counting on me &#038; what foul avis\u2014<br \/>\nclipped &#038; brittle claws\u2014can stop me, USA?<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nI prune this last conversation with the president.<br \/>\nI remember the frozen Valentine candy hearts<br \/>\nhe gave me\u2014I arranged them like a mosaic on my face.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n____________________<br \/>\n<strong>Lina Ramona Vitkauskas<\/strong> (Lithuanian-American-Canadian) is the author of<em> SPINY RETINAS <\/em>(Mutable Sound, 2014), <em>A Neon Tryst<\/em>  (Shearsman Books, 2013); <em>HONEY IS A SHE <\/em> (Plastique Press, 2012);<em> THE RANGE OF YOUR AMAZING NOTHING <\/em> (Ravenna Press, 2010); <em>Failed Star Spawns Planet\/Star <\/em>(dancing girl press, 2006); and <em>Shooting Dead Films with Poets<\/em> (Fractal Edge Press, 2004).
