{"id":564,"date":"2013-01-15T02:49:45","date_gmt":"2013-01-15T02:49:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sporkpress.com\/poetry\/?p=564"},"modified":"2013-01-15T02:49:45","modified_gmt":"2013-01-15T02:49:45","slug":"3-poems-by-nina-corwin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thisissporkpress.com\/archive\/2013\/01\/15\/3-poems-by-nina-corwin\/","title":{"rendered":"3 Poems by Nina Corwin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Once Over With Air Piped In<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Calm they come<br \/>\n&nbsp;\t\t\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;the Ushers<br \/>\nscrubbed scentless&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\t\tissuing<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;directives I eschew but who<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;am I (insurance poor &amp; fresh<br \/>\nout of band-aids back home)?<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nReeking procedure, they wait me up<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;for measurement. Hiss of air<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;piped in    &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; tick tock too loud by half.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Out of reach    &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Examiners play<br \/>\nTouch \t &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &amp; Go with time =&gt; Send<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;lackeys in ahead to pull down<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nstretch of paper sheet &amp; hand me gown<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;gone pale-thin from too many<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;hot water washing.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nChange says they &amp; I change<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Tell me bottle needs filling<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Say open a vein &amp; be fountain<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Spit milksop of history.    &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;I spit<br \/>\n(as instructed):<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Voila! my trainwreck<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;litany. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;   See symptom checklist =&gt;<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;X for yes  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; initial here &amp; here<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;at bottom &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;      sign:<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Shall Speak Only As Spoken To.<\/em><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nNow they truss me up<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;for table ready&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;   (or not) &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;  &amp; set<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\tfor scrutiny.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Doctor of Notes to crack<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;open the door &amp; go groping.<br \/>\nStirrups &amp; poker up next on agenda \u2013<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Order me spread &amp; I spread.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n__________________________________________________________<br \/>\n<strong>Eye To Eye <\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nare you my doppelganger<br \/>\n\t\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;or a piece of glass<br \/>\n&nbsp;\t\t\t\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;(are those)<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nlittle MEs reflected<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;in your eyes or hapless<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;fish in history&#8217;s net<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nthe pupil dilates<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;drinking sidelong dust<br \/>\n\t\t\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;from slats of light<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nI follow \t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;(dissolving)<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;an out-of-whack planet<br \/>\n\t\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;tripped up in invisible moons<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nwhen substrate binds with enzyme<br \/>\n\t\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;something catalytic<br \/>\n&nbsp;\t\t\t\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;happens<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nchromosomes scatter<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;like bread crumbs<br \/>\n\t\t\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;for pigeons<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nthe circle reduced to a lasso of matter<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;a time-noose \t\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;a bracelet<br \/>\n\t\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;of chicken and egg<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nO second hand \t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;grab me<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and hold on for dearly<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;O first hand unclench me<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n\t&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and let me alone<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n__________________________________________________________<br \/>\n<strong>Becoming Mortal Man: The ForeGoing<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nThey will OFFer your ashes at no extra charge.<br \/>\nWe will ask for time to cogitate.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nAn amber valence overcoming. One step<br \/>\nfrom sepia greets us (a pLUG in<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nthe wall with cord gone off kilter). The man<br \/>\nin the palindrome hat will recommend mahogANY.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nHustle us into a room in the back.<br \/>\nStealth exit, a side door unDIGnified.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nBack in the LOBby, he does Uriah Heap things<br \/>\nwith his hands. Obsequious gestures<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nsidestepping discussion of low cost options<br \/>\n(your elbow digs into my left side).<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nWe will tire of polishing hardWARe. Know the bronze<br \/>\nfor no bargain, no throw-in.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nReceipt in an unsealed envelope. Lid open \u2013<br \/>\nbut subtly. Next stop, the NEEDle procedure.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nWe will settle on the barebones special. Pauper pine.<br \/>\nThe palindrome hat looks ASKance<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n(Drab as a fool, aloof as a barD). In sum,<br \/>\nthe eyebrows have it. All sewn up. And SOon<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nwe&#8217;ll be stuck<br \/>\nwith the finicky lid.
